Creative Uses For Garden Decor

 March 2013

In my book, gardening has long been one of the simple and rewarding pleasures of life.  Many people dedicate hours of planning, designing , weeding and planting, turning the garden into their sanctuary.  Garden decor not only sets the tone but can turn the ordinary into that enchanting world you created!

When it comes to making your garden uniquely your own, one of the quickest ways to accomplish this is by using different elements to create an one of a kind of environment.  To help you come up with something that lets your personality shine, here are some thoughts to consider:

Maybe you like the classic look, such as giving your space the feel of a English cottage garden.  This look can be obtained by the choice of flowers you select to plant, like the rose, foxglove and larkspur.  How about some paths that meander through the flower beds?  Do not forget to place a wrought iron bench off the path and a gazing globe within the flowers.  This simple style of garden decor will create an ideal space to sit and relax while you enjoy the flowers!

Next idea, what are your hobbies or interest?  Maybe you are drawn to country.  You can bring that rustic feel into your garden by finding metal implements and objects.  Place them at strategic points around the yard.  What about an old milk jug?  It can become a wonderful upright planter.  Or that old watering can?  Getting the idea?

So you lean towards the functional, your garden decor should include furniture like tables and chairs to create rooms that compliment your outdoor design.  You can create a romantic and serene space by placing lanterns and torches around the rooms - not only giving you ambiance but lighting for extending the evening hours.  Do not forget to use scented candles to help with that romantic environment!

Does your ideal garden have color?  Create your garden scheme on a foundation of colorful shrubs, they can provide burst of color while making the perimeter of a room.  Designate areas for sitting and eating.  Mosaic stone walkways connecting these areas would be functional and colorful.  Large planters can create borders and are easy to fill with continual blooming color.  This scheme would be cheerful and festive.

Planning your garden decor is not difficult.  There is no excuse for a dull and boring garden.  By letting your personality shine and your imagination go you will have created that charming enchanted garden that is perfect for you!
